Project Description: Instead of your typical business cards for your design branding, we were pushed to create our own official item for our branding that makes us stand out as designers. For Joos, we stuck with blind boxes due to their interest in blind boxes & gambling.

The Research

Experimenting with Ideas

Before getting started with our branding project, we wanted to know our audiences' opinion on what is an item that gives them delight. We sketched five potential ideas to see which users would like the best. Users preferred the Joos Pokémon Cards & Joos.Box Blind Boxes as it piques their interest & also gives them delight.

Finalizing Ideas

After showing our five sketches to three people, we decided to stick with the Joos.Box Surprise blind boxes after polishing up a few ideas. We picked blind boxes because of Joos's interest in them & it delights and surprises the consumers.

What is delightful to the designer?

Imagine yourself, where you are a designer trying to look for a job. However, you don't feel like you stand out to other people. Because of that, you want to take initiative to make something to stand out as a designer instead of your typical business cards.

You want to delight the consumer by ensuring that they are surprised, engaged, adored (with cuteness), nostalgic, and reassured with the product you designed for them. We want to give them a "woah, that's adorable!" element to the consumers aswell.

Sketching

Before we got started figuring out model and packaging prototypes, we wanted to sketch out on what the concept art for the blind boxes & the model. The original plan for the joos.box blind box series was to make a simple blue packaging & the models would be based on Joos's favorite activities. However, as time went on, we decided to experiment with 3d models & packaging because we want it to reflect more on Joos's personality.

Packaging

Packaging was done through Adobe Illustrator. We found a milk carton packaging through Adobe Stock Files. The milk carton represents the playful/childlike side of Joos due to their personality traits Joos has in person. This packaging would make Joos stand out to other designers due to not every blind box having a similar design idea. In addition to that, the colors blue and purple were used to represent more on the calmer side of Joos. Lastly, some parts that match Joos's aesthetics included are stars and gradients due to how enjoyable these things are.

3D Modelling & Printing

The 3D model is based on Joos's bear persona. With that, 3D modelling was done through Blender. We did a few prototypes of the standing bear before moving forward with the other models, as it would make it easier to reuse one file to make the bear. Once we were satisfied with the results of the bear, we moved forward with creating other models of the bear. As previously mentioned, the original idea was to include their favorite activities, however, we wanted to show their hobbies and interests through the bear models, such as drawing, listening to music, and playing video games in their laptop.
